Teabridge Constabulary has confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the series of deaths which have gripped the town throughout the summer.
The arrest took place during what police described as a significant overnight operation.
Detectives have not named the person arrested.
Police have confirmed, however, that investigators believe the individual is connected to the deaths which began in June and subsequently became known as the Teabridge Killings.
Several roads on the northern side of Teabridge were temporarily closed during the operation.
Chief Superintendent Evelyn Marsh said police were now satisfied there was no continuing danger to residents.
“This has been an exceptionally difficult investigation for everyone involved,” she said. “At this stage we are confident there is no wider threat to the Teabridge community.”
Police have asked residents not to publish names or speculation concerning the identity of the person arrested.
Families of those who died have been informed of the latest developments.
Additional patrols will remain in place temporarily, although police expect them to be gradually reduced.
