Several community organisations have cancelled evening events following the latest developments in the investigation now widely known as the Teabridge Killings.
Police patrols have increased significantly across the town following another incident believed to be connected with the investigation.
The Teabridge Historical Society has postponed an evening lecture, while two local clubs have moved meetings to daytime hours.
Organisers of the Summer Lantern Walk have also announced that this weekend’s event will not go ahead.
Police have advised residents to remain aware of their surroundings when travelling after dark and, where possible, to avoid isolated routes alone.
No formal curfew has been introduced.
Councillor Margaret Frobisher appealed for calm.
“People are understandably frightened,” she said. “But Teabridge has always been a town where neighbours look out for one another, and that is particularly important now.”
Police have confirmed that specialist investigators are now assisting the Teabridge Major Incident Team.
Detectives continue to refuse to discuss possible suspects or motives.
