Residents have reported unusually high levels of police activity across Teabridge this week as detectives investigating the summer killings appear to have entered a significant new stage of the inquiry.
Unmarked police vehicles have been seen at several locations.
Officers have also been observed conducting searches close to the old railway path and along several lanes north of the town.
Teabridge Constabulary has refused to confirm whether the searches relate to a particular suspect.
A police spokesperson said investigators were pursuing “a number of significant lines of inquiry”.
Detectives have now conducted hundreds of interviews and examined footage from businesses, private homes and public transport routes.
Residents have also been asked to submit photographs and videos taken during several key evenings.
Speculation has grown that police may now have identified the person responsible.
Officers have strongly discouraged such rumours.
“Speculation risks identifying innocent people and could interfere with the investigation,” a spokesperson said.
Police patrols are expected to remain at their current level throughout the coming week.
